The winner of the first two races in the 2017 JJ Giltinan 18fter Championship has been awarded average points for her scoring races in the series after a Hearing by the protest committee in Sydney this morning. Yamaha NZ was forced to withdraw after taking evasive action to avoid a give-way boat, suffering damage and later capsizing just before a 22kt rainsquall hit the fleet.

RORC Caribbean 600 won by Stratis-powered yacht for fourth year For the fourth year in a row the RORC Caribbean 600 has been taken out by a Stratis-powered yacht, further confirmation that Stratis is the sail membrane of choice for any serious performance yacht. Dave McDiarmid and the crew of Yamaha NZ had an end to end win in Sunday’s Race 2 of the JJ Giltinan Trophy sailed on Sydney harbour. In contrast to the rain-marred first race, the 26 boat fleet from Australia, New Zealand, and the USA raced under clear skies and a 16-20kt southerly wind.

Olivia Bolesworth, one of the Row like a Girl Atlantic crossing record-breakers, has joined Zhik as Corporate Activation Manager. Olivia, a design graduate from Bristol UWE, was one of the youngest and fastest females to row across the Atlantic, breaking two world records and finishing second overall in the event.

Many expected a more bullish approach to interest rates, but the Central Bank predicted no action until 2019. This did not gel with reality. This reading of the monetary situation triggered a collapse in the NZD, which fell from above 0.7300, to trade 0.7175!

The Predictwind team took their foiling WASZPs out to Auckland’s Eastern Beach to the Optimist training camp during the school holidays. The intention was to film the kids having a go in the WASZPs, but after the Optimists returned from their training session to have a sail on the single handed foiler, it was a bit breezy for the kids.
